Polytetrafluoroethylene, abbreviated as PTFE, commonly known as “Plastic King“, is a high molecular polymer prepared by polymerizing tetrafluoroethylene as a monomer. White waxy, translucent, excellent heat and cold resistance, can be used for a long time at -65ºC~260ºC.
PTFE tubes are made of 100% virgin PTFE resin without any pigment or additives, has the characteristics of resistance to acid, alkali, and various organic solvents, and are almost insoluble in all solvents. This chemical corrosion-resistant tube is suitable for industrial, chemical processing, general laboratory, automotive, aerospace, food services, and other fluid applications.

3D Printer
PTFE tube is an essential part of any 3D printer, either as a filament conduit on a direct drive system or as a Bowden setup for the filament path itself. Low friction and tight tolerances are very important for consistent and reliable performance, providing great printing and easy filament loading. We have PTFE tubing made for that.
Suitable sizes for 3D printer: 2x4mm, 4x6mm
Available colors: white, blue, red, green, black, and etc.
Coffee Machine
PTFE tube is also often found on coffee machines, it would normally be used to carry water under pressure and would use suitable connectors at each end, like brass bushing. Length is very important when used in coffee machine. If it is shorter or longer, it will mess with the HX intermix and change the recovery rate and stability of the heat exchange system.
Suitable sizes for coffee machine: 1/8’’x1/4’’, 2.5x4mm, 3x5mm, 4x6mm, 6x8mm and etc.
Liquid Cooling System For Electronics
PTFE corrugated tube has high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and good flexibility, which makes it great choice as liquid cooling lines for many electronic components, mostly found in data centre, industrial computers.
Pneumatic Industry
FEP maintains its strength and benefits in a wide range of temperatures and conditions. FEP tubing is designed with enhanced chemical resistance with advanced gas and vapor permeability properties and excellent UV transmission ratings. FEP tubing also provides increased clarity over PTFE with a higher coefficient of friction, crystallinity, transparency and lack of microporosity, which made it ideal choice for pneumatic industry to transfer gases without leakage.
Pharmaceutical Applications
In the pharmaceutical industry, companies must rely on plumbing to maintain the purity of the material. For example, ultra-pure water transported through resin tubes must be able to maintain chemical purity throughout the process; PFA’s inertness to chemicals, including other hazardous contaminants that can be found in laboratories, such as sulfuric acid, makes it a high-quality standard unparalleled choice. For pharmaceutical companies that require frequent use of highly corrosive materials such as nitric or phosphoric acid, PFA tubing will easily withstand its otherwise destructive properties.
PTFE tubing is a corrosion-resistant tube that is used in many industrial applications. PTFE tubing is one of the only materials that will withstand certain types of acid. The tubing can be adapted to work in many situations. PTFE tubing is very low friction and can help to improve flow. Sometimes PTFE tubing is used in food service applications as well.
PTFE is the abbreviation for polytetrafluoroethylene, a synthetic polymer that consists of 2 basic elements namely carbon and fluorine.
High chemical resistance
Distinctly inert
Withstands temperatures of up to 240°C
Superior dielectric strength
Suitable for carrying highly corrosive/reactive fluids
Extensively useful in medical applications
Effective in high-heat applications
Insulating medium in cables and heavy electricals
Our Teflon connector tubing can withstand temperatures from as low as -180C to as high as 260C, making it ideal as spare parts for 3D printers.
PTFE tubing is chemically resistant, has a low coefficient of friction, and broad temperature range from 500°F (260°C) to -454°F (–270°C).
Due to its high flexibility, PTFE is mostly used with microfluidic fittings in low-pressure applications. Its melting point is reached at 327°C, making it a material of choice in high temperature applications.
about 330 °C
During the shrinking process, the outer PTFE layer shrinks at a temperature of about 330 °C
To remove the PTFE tube from your extruder, you should depress the circular plastic coupler to release the teeth that hold the tube in place, then pull out the PTFE tube. If you can’t pull it out, unscrew the whole fitting from the extruder, then apply more pressure to the coupler using tools and remove the tube.
5mm from the end. this will seal your connection between you nozzle and throat.
PTFE is a very common component used in filament-based 3D printers. It’s the white material used in tubes guiding filament towards the extruder and hot end. Bowden-style 3D printers require the use of PTFE tubes to ensure the extruder can push the filament properly, but direct extruders do not require such tubes.
Sometimes, the filament can get really stuck in the PTFE tube and can not be removed by hand. In that case, boiling the tube in water can help. This softens the filament inside and afterwards you can push it out. The PTFE does not get harmed by the boiling water, as it is resistant to much higher temperatures.
I believe the recommended time for nozzle change is about an half a year. But depends on what filament and how often you print.
Similarities:
Same performance, excellent weather resistance, corrosion resistance, high and low temperature resistance.
Differences:
FEP&PFA
Expensive cost
Complex production process
Natural color is transparent
Can be melt welded,Unlimited tube length
PTFE
Lower cost, natural colors milk white or translucent.
Difficult to weld,Tube length is limited
Application field is wider.
Compared with the rubber tubes used in regularfamily personal computers, PTFE corrugated flexible tubes are the best choice asliquid cooling lines used in industrial computers or data centers, because PTFE has better high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and anti-aging performance than rubber.
